Whether you’re landing in Rome or Naples, this guide will walk you through the best options for getting to Maiori. It is highly recommended that you DO NOT rent a car. Driving on the Amalfi Coast is very chaotic, and parking is extremely difficult and expensive. There is no Uber in Italy. Uber can only be used to call a Taxi.

Best Travel App

We highly recommend downloading the Omio app before arriving in Italy. It’s the most reliable app for comparing and booking both train and ferry tickets.

Step 1: Arrival in Italy

You’ll most likely arrive at one of two airports:

  • Rome (FCO): Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport

  • Naples (NAP):  Naples International Airport

If you land in Rome, you’ll need to take a high-speed train to Naples before continuing to Maiori.

Step 2: Rome to Naples (for guests landing in Rome)

  1. Take the Leonardo Express train from FCO (Rome Airport) to Rome Termini Station (Rome’s central station)

    • Trains depart approximately every 15 minutes

    • Ride time is about 32 minutes

  2. From Rome Termini, take a high-speed train to Naples Centrale Station

    • Duration is about 1 hour and 10 minutes

    • Trains run frequently throughout the day

We strongly recommend downloading the Omio app to easily search and book train tickets on your phone. You can also purchase tickets at the train station.

Step 3: Naples to Maiori (2 Options)

Once you arrive at Naples Centrale Station, you have two main options to get to Maiori:

Option 1: Taxi or Private Car

Pros: Least stressful & fastest
Cons: More expensive

  • Taxi from Naples to Maiori: ~150 EUR

  • Private car service (pre-arranged): ~200 USD
    • Contact your hotel or AirBNB host, they can usually help arrange transportation or get you in contact with a driver to pick you up directly from the Airport or Train Station.

Option 2: Train to Salerno + Ferry to Maiori

Pros: Scenic, Budget-Friendly
Cons: More coordination & Adds 2hrs of travel

  1. Take a regional train from Naples Centrale to Salerno

    • Ride time: about 40 minutes

    • Cost: ~12 EUR per person

  2. From the Salerno train station, walk about 10 minutes (~1/3 mile) to Molo Concordia (the Salerno ferry port)

  3. Take a ferry from Salerno to Maiori

    • Ride time: ~40 minutes

    • Cost: ~13 EUR per person

    • Ferries run about 7 times per day

    • Last ferry leaves Salerno at 6:00 PM

This route is very scenic, but involves more planning, walking and can be stressful. Only recommended for confident travelers.

If you go this route, we suggest purchasing your tickets in real-time on the Omio app (at the train station and ferry port) rather than ahead of time to avoid issues if a leg of the journey is delayed.

**Important Note for Salerno Train + Ferry Travelers**

If you take the train to Salerno, you must press a button on the train to open the door when it stops. The doors do not open automatically. If you wait for the doors to open on their own, the train may depart again and skip the stop.

They can look like this, depending on the train:

This happened to us on our first trip and caused a big delay. Be prepared to exit and press the button as soon as the train arrives at Salerno. The train will leave within a minute or so of stopping.

These buttons are typically green or yellow with arrows, located near the doors. They light up when active.
